A glossary of every feature in Read Promptly.
- Scroll Mode
- A smooth, continuous teleprompter experience. Your script scrolls upward at a steady pace based on your Seconds-per-line setting. Tap the screen or press Space to pause and resume.
- Step Mode
- A line-by-line teleprompter experience. One line is highlighted and centered at a time while the surrounding lines are dimmed and blurred. The app advances automatically after the Seconds-per-line interval.
- Countdown Visual
- A thin orange progress bar at the bottom of the prompter that shows how much of your script is left. It starts full and slowly depletes as you read. You can turn it on or off from the editor.
- Font Size
- Controls how large the script text appears in the prompter. Increase it for distance reading or decrease it for compact setups. The text is automatically clamped so it never becomes unreadable on small screens.
- Seconds per Line
- Sets the pacing of the prompter. In Scroll Mode it controls the overall scroll speed. In Step Mode it controls how long each line stays on screen before advancing.
- Theme Palette
- Choose the background and text colors for the prompter. Pick a high-contrast combo for bright rooms, or a dark background with light text for low-light recording sessions.
- Keyboard Controls
- Press Space at any time to play or pause the prompter. Press Escape to return to the editor. These shortcuts work whether the playback controls are visible or hidden.
- Auto-hide Controls
- The playback buttons fade away while the prompter is running so they don't block your script. Move the mouse or pause to bring them back.
- Restart
- Jumps back to the beginning of your script and resumes playback. Useful for retakes or starting a new recording without re-pasting your text.
- Local Storage App
- Read Promptly runs entirely in your browser. Your script and settings are not uploaded or stored on a server; they stay on this device.
